March 1st 2016 Theme – Leap Day Party

“Happy Leap Day. A day where ‘this time last year’ and ‘this time next year’ does not apply.” ~~ Anonymous

Welcome to the first meeting in March. Our club celebrated the Leap Year with a Leap Day Party.

Our Toastmaster Lynne took the responsibility of decorating and leading the party with lots of fun, laughter and a very meaningful message “Leap for Your Dreams”.

The GAT(e) team comprised of : Grammarian – Grace [assortment]Ah Counter – NancyTimer – Barb.

Jung was the first speaker of the day. She completed Project #2 from the CC Manual – Organize your Speech. Title of her talk “Who do you think you are?” which she completed within 7 mins.

She started her talk with questions prompting us to think how well we knew ourselves and understand others? She points out that each of us being different from each other, develop our own ways of tackling situations and often times end up in arguments.

In order to have better understanding of oneself and fellow people, Jung introduced us to an Enneagram – a system to determine one’s personality type. According to Enneagram, there are 9 personality types, namely – reformer, helper, achiever, individualist, thinker, loyalist, enthusiast, leader, and peacemaker. Each type has its own strengths and weaknesses. She shared with us how by understanding her and her husband’s personality through an enneagram, they were able to strengthen their relationship.

Jung was voted the best speaker.

Kathy was her evaluator. She appreciated Jung's well-prepared and well-organized talk that the audience could readily relate to. By sharing how the enneagram affected her personal life and an encouraging conclusion, Kathy thought Jung did an awesome job. As suggestions, Kathy offered Jung to pause between questions and consider providing handouts about the various personalities.

Our second speaker was RB. He completed Project #1 from the CC Manual – Ice Breaker. The title of his speech “Living the Dream” which he completed within 6 mins.

Through his Ice Breaker, RB shared with us how he landed into the world of investing through flipping and acquiring properties. The risk and stress of the job led him to think more about building passive streams of income. Today, RB has successfully built passive streams of income by lending money to investors. Monthly income keeps flowing into his account in the form of interest towards the money lent by him.

RB says no matter which direction the market is heading; he is always making money. He assures that the principles on which banks all around the world have worked for hundreds of years is highly successful at generating passive income. He encourages the audience to start their own family bank thus working towards establishing a passive income stream.

Jim was his evaluator. Jim congratulated RB on his well- delivered Ice Breaker. RB looked very confident facing the audience. Jim proved by posing a question to the audience that RB gave a successful talk by motivating club members to start their own personal family banks. As a suggestion, Jim offered RB to offer some examples of how to build passive income streams.

Warren was our third speaker of the day. He completed Project #5 from the CC Manual – Your Body Speaks. Title of his talk “Social Media: Technology Looking for a Purpose” which he completed within 7 mins.

To start with, Warren gave a brief outline on social media sites, his examples included Pinterest and Twitter. He pointed out how many people frantically try to monetize from the social media. Companies like Twitter are losing in the market. His focus then shifted to Facebook and LinkedIn. While during the initial years, it was mostly younger generation that made up Facebook, today the trend has changed with the older generation also becoming a part it.

He enacted out a situation where a young man loses his job due to conflicting personalities that he creates on 2 different social media sites, namely Facebook and LinkedIn. While the young man was successful presenting himself as a decent professional on LinkedIn, he was the exact opposite on Facebook with awful posts and language. He warns the audience to be alert and agile on social media sites making sure the privacy settings are set properly.

Jean was her evaluator. She gave kudos to Warren’s superior introduction followed by his explanations of social media sites. Infused with humor, Warren had good stage movement and gestures throughout his talk. As a suggestion, she offered him to use a chart or a handout.

Anisha was the general evaluator. She gave kudos to Lynne, our toastmaster of the day for arranging the wonderful party filled with food and color. She appreciated the speakers and evaluators who were educational and motivating.
