Public Speaking Northwest Minutes for 7-14-2020

Announcements: Officer Training is happening!

Our Meeting Toastmaster: Kate Morris showed true leadership making the meeting flow flawlessly. Her theme was “Turning of the Tides.”

Our President: Barb Katz welcomed Zoom guest, Julie McLean, from Jacksonville, Florida. With her application in hand, Lynn Connell is becoming our newest member. Welcome, Lynn!

Our Gate Team was:

Our Speaker: Giri fascinated us with his speech, “Understanding Emotional Intelligence – Focus on the Positive.” He showed us how to “Make the Pink Elephant in the Room Disappear.” He opened with a story to catch our attention, talked about Carl Jung’s “shadow” of negativity that we can easily  overcome, and even used the character, George, from Seinfeld to demonstrate what he meant. Finally, Giri tuned us into being aware of our ‘Light Bulb Moments.” Giri gave a truly motivational speech.

 Giri’s Evaluator - Jim praised Giri’s energy, enthusiasm, and content. He also added a few tweaks for Giri to consider.

Our Table Topics Master – Jean led Table Topics using the theme ‘Turning of the Tides,’ which means ‘Change.’

Our Table Topic Speakers -’ Jinxin turned the tide of a personal problem when she spoke to a helpful person. Lynn turned the tide of upset with her children with her self-talk and patience. Robert, as a teenager, turned the tide of with his parents by getting a library job and buying his own phone. Julie turned the tide by joining Toastmasters and earning 3 DTMs in 3 years.
