Public Speaking Northwest Practices the Wisdom of John Wayne!

Our Toastmaster Club practices, “Talk low, talk slow, and don’t talk too much.” ~ John Wayne

That’s why we time our talks. Only those who keep within their allotted time can vie for the blue ribbon.

Our President, Barb, opened our meeting with Kate, Jamie, Cindy, Cary, Kyle, Casey, Ken, Juliet, Jan S., Tracy, Mihaela, Jean, and guests, Kathy and Colleen.

Lynne’s, first turn as Toastmaster of the Day, succeeded perfectly. Her theme was ‘Cats.’ The members easily included cats in the program.

Kate presented “Hunt,” our word of the day as in cats hunting for mice or Kate hunting for bargains. It also was well used during the meeting.

Jamie, our first speaker, said he’s known as the 'King' in his family, that is, the king of sticking his foot in his mouth. He related 2 incidents that both humored and shocked us. He keeps improving with every speech.

Jan S. evaluated Jamie’s speech by praising his gestures, eye-contact, and organization.

Mihaela, our second speaker, is the master of “Cool Design.” Her interactive speech included the audience with answering questions, a white board, and her magical drawing of cats. She knows how to make a talk interesting and fun.

Barb evaluated Mihaela’s talk with glowing remarks about her props, organization, and excellent teaching methods.

Our Table Topics Master, Cindy prepared fortune cookie questions.

Both Cary and Kyle shared stories about cat’s named “Big Boy” and “Tiger.” You can tell by their pictures, they had fun.

Ken, our general evaluator, offered praise and shared suggestions

Our Blue Ribbon Winners!

Best Speaker: Jamie
Best Evaluator: Barb
Best Table Topics: Kyle

Congratulations to all!

Our photographers were Juliet and Mihaela. Thank you both for doing such a great job!

  2. My advice to Jamie is to stay away from coffee. It seems to be the cause of the "foot in mouth" disease!

  3. I agree, Ken about the coffee. It was a great meeting yesterday. I love our club! It is so great to see everyone facing their fears of public speaking and getting up and overcoming them.-Jamie
