Public Speak Northwest Teaches Presentation Skills!

Public Speaking Northwest Teaches Presentation Skills!

Public Speaking Minutes for January 24, 2012

Every Tuesday from Noon to 1:00 PM our members have the opportunity to develop their skills and this week was no exception.

Public Speaking Northwest Builds Skills Through Learning, Support, and Practice!

Barbara, Ken, Emery, Pierce, Jan, Prema, Kevin, Jean, and guest, Tiffany cheered for our speakers.

Barbara, our president, greeted us with smiles. After she shared a few words, she turned the meeting over to our Toastmaster for the day, Ken.

Ken warmed us with stories of walking his dog in the snow and encouraged us us to share our "Snowy Memories," the theme for the day. Such a fitting theme since we had just experienced a week of snow.

Emery discussed "Love the Elusive." Presenting from the Speaking to Inform Manual, Emery displayed his research skills. He shared the many meanings of love including spiritual love.

Barbara evaluated Emery's talk highlighting the many speaking skills Emery now possesses. To increase his further development, Barbara shared a few suggestions.

Jan entertained us from the Competent Communication Manual, with her hilarious presentation, "Grandma and Her Pet Care Experiences." She enhanced her skills with photos of both her children and grandchildren's pets. Describing their personalities along with their pictures, she proved her growing skills in the use of props.

Pierce gave Jan a glowing evaluation. In toastmasters, even the evaluations are mini impromptu speeches, which Pierce excels at. He outlined the skills he noted in Jan's talk.

Both Emery and Barbara kept within the time limits and therefore, won the ribbons for best speaker and best evaluator.

Tiffany, our guest who teaches English abroad, said she was impressed by the meeting and will be considering toastmasters when she returns to her country.

On February 14th, Public Speaking Northwest, will be hosting an Open House Valentine Party with an Inspirational Contest starring Emery and Barbara. Everyone is welcome!

  1. Hot chocolate (with marshmallows), hot tomato soup with toasted cheese sandwiches following adventures sledding and snow fights are the best...Hmmm!

  2. Nice job Jean--looking forward to see the blog in my email. Thanks. And by the way, I got the pic for Chuck somewhat they way you stated.
